Key 6 of 9 in the Loading Growth Wheel

Growing IP

Productising delivery, packaging IP and case studies.

What this Key unlocks

Without proper IP an IT services firm is no more than a collection of consultants. Properly developed IP reduces delivery cost, simplifies training and lifts fee rates, profit and equity value. This Key covers productised offers, accelerators, methodologies and the case studies that sell them.

Inside Everest, this Key is worked in 90 Day Sprints: one or two levers per sprint, measured, reviewed with peers and locked in before the next cycle. The Growing IP result page shows the three levers most firms need to pull first.

Questions founders ask about Growing IP

What counts as IP in an IT services firm?
Anything that lets the firm deliver a known outcome without the founder in the room: methodologies, accelerators, templates, playbooks, fixed scope offers, the diligence trust pack and the case studies that prove them. If it lives in someone's head, it is not yet IP.
Every client is different. Can we really productise?
Categorise the last four to five years of engagements and you will find the same three or four problems solved thirty times. Clients buy the outcome; you can still tailor the delivery inside a productised offer. What is fixed is how they buy, not every step of how you work.
What is a productised offering?
A named, repeatable engagement with a fixed scope, a fixed price and a playbook behind it. One is enough to change how clients buy, how you quote and how fast a new senior becomes billable.
Who should own the IP library?
A named curator, usually a senior delivery lead, with one owned, versioned library. Without an owner, IP spreads across laptops and project folders and walks out the door with people.
What is a diligence trust pack?
The QA, security, architecture and reference material a client or buyer asks for, assembled before they ask. Firms that have it win procurement rounds faster and survive due diligence; firms that assemble it from scratch each time lose weeks and credibility.
How do we get case studies when clients will not be named?
Write the case study first and ask second. A short, specific, numbers led draft is far easier to approve than a request for a testimonial. Anonymised versions still work for sales conversations. Build the process so every engagement produces one.
Does AI change the Growing IP conversation?
It accelerates it. Once the method is written down and in one library, AI can draft, check and deliver parts of it under your seniors' judgement, and that is where ConsultancyOS points. Firms whose IP is in people's heads cannot be accelerated.
How does IP affect the firm's value?
Directly. Properly developed IP cuts delivery cost, simplifies training and lifts fee rates, and a buyer pays for method they can run without you. Without it an IT services firm is a collection of consultants: valuable people, no asset underneath them.
